Protect Your-Name.xxx Domain Name Now!
Individuals should register their personal names under the .xxx domain-name extension to prevent direct association with pornography.
Berkeley, CA March 31, 2004 - DomainMart, a leading provider of domain-name services, today issued an advisory alert regarding the proposed .xxx domain-name extension.
The alert recommends that individuals register their personal names under the existing .xxx extension to prevent any direct pornographic association with those personal names.
Anyone can register dubbya.xxx, points out Alex Tajirian, President and CEO of DomainMart.
The alert came after the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN, the Internet governing body) reported to had received a request to create a .xxx domain name extension. DomainMart points out that New.net is already providing the .xxx extension and that a number of major Internet Service Providers are hosting websites associated with the extension.
One reason individuals have not registered their names under .xxx extension is that they want to free-ride on someone already using their name with the new extension, notes Alex. As to why pornographers have yet capitalized on it, Alex believes its because the current .xxx registry is not yet sanctioned by ICANN.
It is not the job or in the interest of newspapers, online news sources, or attorneys to warn you, adds Alex. Thus, he strongly recommends that people retain a personal domain-name agent to ensure renewal, provide protection, and give sound advice before an Internet search finds their names intimately linked with pornography.
Ten groups have applied with ICANN for nine new domains: .asia, .cat, .jobs, .mail, .mobi, .post, .tel, .travel, and .xxx.
DomainMart is a leader in providing domain-name secondary-market services, including appraisal/valuation, escrow, leasing, parking, and protection management since 1996.
